Court Says Fantasy Baseball Games Can Go On

advertisement

In what may be a rather critical ruling across major technology areas, a federal court has ruled in favor of a company using "unlicensed" statistics from Major League Baseball for a fantasy league, despite claims by the MLB that they owned all the stats and thus required licensing (which is why many fantasy leagues are pay-to-play). The court rules favorably on a number of issues, but most seemed to to point that you cannot copyright historical facts, which baseball statistics clearly fell into.
